Diocesan Right

At our meeting on Monday, the monks were happy to inform us that the Diocese of Cheyenne has begun the very involved and detailed process of establishing the community as an Institute of Diocesan Right. For those of us not so familiar with this process, basically a new religious community must go through a series of steps to become a major order in the Church. The Carmelites are being promoted to that next step, which will establish them still more firmly in the Diocese of Cheyenne and involve the Vatican's review of their manner of living. Most of the friaries, monasteries, and convents we think of are of Diocesan Right or pontifical.

This is great news indeed! May Bishop Etienne be rewarded hundred-fold for his courage and paternal solicitude. Please know too that your sacrifice and ours to establish this monastery is a source of great encouragement to the Diocese as they promote the community knowing that we are working so hard to get the monks established in their permanent monastery.

In the Cold of Winter

"O ye frost and cold, bless the Lord: praise and exalt him above all forever."

These words of the Prophet Daniel seem especially suited to a frigid cold Wyoming day like today. Please know beloved friends of Carmel that each of you are prayed for daily. How we thank God for your amazing generosity towards a New Mount Carmel!

Monks in cold on the New Mount Carmel.

Let us pray during these cold days of winter for warmer days ahead that will allow us to install electricity and natural gas to the building site. Negative temperatures are certainly cold, but even still let all of creation (albeit a freezing cold creation here in Wyoming) bless the Lord! On cold days like these, the monks thank God for the wisdom of St. Teresa who was inspired to prescribe woolen habits for her Carmelite sons and daughters! :)

Bishop's Visit to the Monastery

The monks were thrilled to have Bishop Etienne with them last weekend for a wonderful visit to the community and to the New Mount Carmel.

Bishop meets Fr. Joseph Marie.

Despite the cold Wyoming winter, Bishop and the monks ventured out to the new property to take a tour of the building site. The whole weekend was filled with blessings and a whole lot of fun.

The New Mount Carmel Foundation Board is very grateful to Bishop for his continued support of our work on behalf of the Wyoming Carmelites; we are happy to offer our services to Christ and to the local church in Wyoming by helping the Carmelites get established in the mountains.

We ask for your continued prayers and generosity that the monks' vision and ours may become a reality. By the way, please keep Bishop and the Diocese in your prayers as they do so much good to make Christ known and loved here in great big, wonderful Wyoming! Enjoy the pictures and be sure to visit Bishop's excellent blog posting here: Bishop Etienne's Blog.
